Deities
The concept of what can be considered a deity is an often debated subject within Verail. A traditional viewpoint has typically held Velyr's Lieutenants, along with Velyr himself, as the only true gods, with all others simply being forces of great power, while others argue for anyone with great enough power and/or a significant amount of worshippers should be considered a deity. The viewpoint held by many Kahvlarashar argues that it is an arbitrary category entirely. This debate has been further complicated by Divinity's End, the name given to the disappearance of Velyr's Lieutenants and the subsequent crisis of faith many faced in the aftermath. For simplicity, this page lists beings that are considered to be deities by a significant amount of people, being listed on this page does not guarantee that all, or even a majority of the population, will consider them as such.
Velyr[edit | edit source]
Velyr is often believed to be the consciousness of the nearest star to Verail, and as such most tend to refer to that star by the same name. This belief cannot be proven, but nor can it be disproven. Velyr is also considered to be the strongest, or at least one of the strongest, gods. Even though he is held in high regard, he has very few direct worshippers, as he has been inactive for thousands of years, and is regarded more as a force of history than an active, present-day god.
Velyr's Lieutenants[edit | edit source]
During the war against the Visitors, Velyr created the seven beings that would become the primary gods of Verail, Ai'Viena, Vephar, Sereniva, Renthal, Vaera, Saervak, and Les'Shavar. Following the war, these seven became the unequivocal deities across most of the world, and remained as such until their influence vanished from the world in 4992 FV, an event that would become known as Divinity's End.
